    Science!!!!!!

    2013 - 08.10

Science is described as an intellectual activity carried on by humans. It is designed to discover information about the natural world in which humans live in. To make the definition more simple I’m going to put it in my own words. Science is making hypothesis about the outcome of a theory or experiment. Doing different experiments in order to discover something new in our big world, For example discovering a new breed of plants or discovering a new planet. Basically science is all about discovering new things, guessing and wondering what you can discover next. Science is a very big part of peoples lives everyday. Without science, we would never discover the amazing things we know now. I really love hands on science. I like doing experiments, testing things and making theories. Science will be a big part of my life because I will be studying animal bodies and how they work. So I will use science everyday.

    Blogging

    2013 - 08.10

Blogging was a very interesting and fun experience. I really enjoyed blogging about things that I found interesting to me and my possible readers. On the other hand, it’s hard to blog and find a good topic to write about while also keeping them interested. Another hard part was trying to figure out the right words to say and trying to put your thought into actual sentences that are clear. Editing was a pain as well, the editors wrote a lot of comments and they were hard to keep up with. Overall blogging was a fun experience and after this internship I might continue to write more blogs in my free time.

Blogging gave me the ability to share things about my interest and to connect my post to science and connect them to my everyday life and connect them to things that I find important to my every day.

I feel that Teens should blog and express their feelings about certain subjects that come in their lives. Blogging is a way to either, vent or write about something you love such as.. family, friends, your favorite animal and so on. It’s also a good way to kill some time if you’re at home bored or just want to write about something that you are truly passionate about. I recommend that people should blog, they may like it.

    Animal Abuser Law

Animal Abuse- Infliction of suffering or harm upon animals

The city of Rochester is thinking of passing a law that puts all animal abusers on a list so they can not purchase or adopt any animals. The positive side of this law is that the abuser can not purchase any animals in Monroe County. But the law only goes so far: the abuser can go out of the county and continue to purchase or adopt animals.

I feel that this will be a very good and smart law.

New York State Animal Cruelty Law defines abuse as torture, torment, cruel beating, cruel killing and depriving animals of food drink and shelter. Animals have to have their basic needs which are shelter, food, water, veterinary care, space, sanitation, light, confinement, collars, and grooming. The interesting thing is abuse does not have to be physical; the animal can be verbally abuse as well, Like shouting at them and intimidating them verbally.

I feel that animal abuse is uncalled for and not humane. It takes a very sick and sad person to want to hurt an animal that only wants to love you and that will always be loyal. What is the Point? Where is the amusement? Animals shouldn’t live in fear of the human they love. Animals shouldn’t get beaten for no reason

    What is animal cruelty

The best thing about animals is, regardless of them getting  beaten and tormented they still love you. Animal abuse is wrong in so many ways it is cruel and uncalled for. No animal should go through life fearing someone, just like no human should go through life fearing someone. Animals have feelings they can feel pain, they can be sad, angry and etc. But the point is that animals have feelings as well.

STOP ANIMAL ABUSE,  IT IS NOT RIGHT

So this animal abuser law is a great step in stopping animal abuse in Rochester, but now we have to try to stop it around the world! One thing i learned is that animal abuse can be stop in many ways. If vets are suspicious about an animal being abused they can report the owner to the ASPCA .

When I went to Interview Dr.Miner at Brighton Animal Hospital he told us, “If we’re suspicious of something we’ll call the SPCA and they’ll look into it, you know, a couple times a year we definitely get some that we’re suspicious of.  Animal cases are hard to prove a lot of times and there’s not as much resources behind it in veterinary side of things as there is in human side of things.  So I think it would be pretty easy cause if someone comes in with an animal that I’m suspicious that the animal has been abused I could just, you know, most of the time I will say to them I’m really concerned about your animal and I’m going to report you to the SPCA”.
Later on when i do become a vet i will have to do the same in  some cases if i do suspect animal abuse. But i am not a vet yet but there are things I can do like donate time at an animal shelter helping those animals, writing to my county to support the potentual registy of animal abusers and report anything suspicious i see.

I would have liked to add more pictures of serious cases of Animal Abuse but, they are to disturbing and graphic even for me.

    Rabies Awareness

    2013 - 08.08

I wanted to write about this topic, because it is very important to me. I want owners to be aware of this horrible virus that affects many mammals each year, especially the ones I love the most – dogs. It’s good for dog owners now and in the future to be aware of this virus and the horrible things it can do to our beloved pets.

    WHAT IS RABIES??

Rabies is a contagious and fatal virus that affects dogs and other mammals. It can also be transmitted to humans through saliva and causes madness. The virus is nearly always fatal unless doctors administer a vaccine before it reaches the brain.  Rabies is caused by a virus in the Rhabdoviridae family (a family of rod or bullet shaped RNA virus that are located in vertebrates, insects, and plants.)bite2

    SYMPTOMS

The first symptoms of rabies for dogs are very subtle. The tone of their bark changes, they chew at the site where they were bitten, they start losing there appetite, and they become feverish. The second set of  symptoms is called the mad dog stage or the furious stage. In the second stage the animal starts to crave many things including inedible objects. They constantly growl and bark. They have episodes of aggression. they are very restless and do not fear any natural enemies. They begin to roam more they frequently have seizures and they’re always trembling and muscle incoordination. The third and final stage is the paralytic stage. The animals lower jaw starts to drop, and the animal appears to have difficulty swallowing which leads to drooling and foaming of the mouth. The jaw and chewing becomes paralysis. Then finally the virus spreads through the animals body and it becomes depressed, rapidly enters into a coma and dies.(retrieved from http://www.healthcommunities.com/rabies/symptoms.shtml on July 29, 2013).

     ARE THERE ANY KNOWN  SURVIVERS??

Rabies kills about 55,000 people every year worldwide. There is a short list of people that survived the rabies virus . The best known member of that select group is Jenna Giese a Wisconsin teenager who lived through the disease in 2004.

HOW TO PREVENT YOUR PETS FROM GETTING RABIES ?????

The rabies virus is most common in dogs and other domesticated animals. Our animals can get the virus by coming in contact with wildlife that was already effected. So make sure your pet has there rabies shot. DO NOT let pets roam!  Keep an eye on them but if your pet does get bitten seek veterinary assistance IMMEDIATELY. Also to reduce any chances of you animal getting rabies or any other domesticated animal from getting rabies call your local animal control agency to remove any stray animals from your neighborhood

Obtaining , Evaluating and communicating Information

I used many resources to obtain my information about rabies and how to prevent them and show examples of people that survived this virus . I evaluated the information I wanted to use and wrote it out in paragraph form and communicated the information that I discovered to my future readers.
